Ambulomancy
Alternatively Ambulomancie and Ambulomanzia.
Derived from the ancient Latin word ambulare ('to walk'), it is a form of divination by means of walking.
There are different methods of divining futurity by Ambulomancy.
The most popular form consists of observing how someone walks, their manner and gait. In this method, character and personality are ascertained.
Another method involved walking in circles, or inside a circle, until dizziness or other factors contributed for the diviner reaching a condition where prophetic utterances were initiated.
It is said we make plenty of choices as we walk through life and so, these choices can lead down a good or bad road depending on which we choose to tread.
In yet another method of Ambulomancy, a person could divine its own future by walking, usually by a predetermined path or route, and taking notice of any omens or atypical occurrences during its course. In this form of divination, the diviner is supposed to circumnavigate the area around his or her home at the time when the Wheel of the Year — a Neopagan term for the annual cycle of the Earth's seasons — is aligned with the direction their front door faces.
A template or diagram of the area, denoting the path taken, is drawn, with sections representing times of the year or the seasons clearly marked in it. On the predetermined night or date, the diviner exits his/her house through the front entrance and turns sun-wise to begin collecting omens and presages for a year long prognostication. The diviner starts then his or her prophetic walk. Portents first observed are closer to the present time, and subsequent omens represent events that will occur during the time of the year associated with the point on the route at which they are observed.
Anbulomancy is closely related to Gyromancy and, like most divinatory systems, is quite ancient, been practiced since time immemorial.
