Tesla, Nikola (1856-1943)
Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, scientist and researcher who invented the system of AC power generation and transmission that is used universally today.
Nikola Tesla achievements led to the discovery of radio and television as well as the development of the first hydroelectric dam, remote control, radar tracking for the military, x-ray and the manipulation of matter and energy. His discoveries are also the basis for the emerging science of free energy.
Tesla was born on July of 1856 to Serbian parents in Smiljan, Lika, a mountainous area of the Balkan Peninsula (Austrian Empire, modern day Croatia). Tesla's father was an Orthodox priest and a talented writer/poet and his mother, although had no schooling, was a highly intelligent woman who had a talent for creating home made contraptions to help with the daily house chores.
As a youngster Tesla was much of a dreamer and dabbed into writing and poetry, perhaps influenced by his father, but soon a passion for mathematics and science developed in young Nikola. Pursuing an engineering career, Tesla attended the Technical University at Graz, Austria, and the University of Prague.
In 1882 Tesla went to Paris, and started working for the Continental Edison Company, and, while on assignment to Strassburg in 1883, he build, in after-work hours, his first induction motor. He immigrated to the United States in 1884, at first finding employment with Thomas Edison, but as their methods and background differences stared to become apparent, the two inventors parted ways.
After selling a few of his patents to George Westinghouse, head of the Westinghouse Electric Company, Tesla finally had enough money to established his own laboratory, and his inventive mind could then have free rein.
Tesla's countless inventions, achievements and experiments include work on a carbon button lamp, the power of electrical resonance, various types of lighting, X-ray, radar, AC power generation and transmission, the wireless transmission of energy, remote control, and also various types of generators, transformers, transmission lines and motors. Several of his notes and research papers went missing after his death in 1943, and for many years scientists and researchers have sought for his missing documents with no apparent success.
