Age of Aquarius
The supposed two-thousand-year period of enlightenment, peace and love heralded by the entry of the sun into the zodiacal sign of Aquarius.
Astrologers and diverse occult traditions disagree on the date of this period's beginning they range from 1904 to 2680.
American medium Edgar Cayce, called by some "the Prophet of the New Age," said the Age of Aquarius and its preceding age, the Age of Pisces, overlap and that the changeover could not be fully understood until the beginning of the 21st century.
The term was popular during the 1960s, a decade marked by social and political upheaval and increased interest in spiritual exploration and alternative lifestyles.
According to the Christian Esoteric, Essenian and later Rosicrucian traditions, the nearness and entrance into the Age of Aquarius — taking place after the Age of Pisces, or the age ruled by the "Sword" — will produce to the majority of humanity the discovery, real living and actual knowledge of the inner and profound Christian teachings.
Several native American traditions also refer to the beginning of a remarkable age of enlightenment, announced by the coming of a great spiritual teacher who will unite the material and spiritual worlds, bringing about a period of universal tranquility and brotherhood.
