| | | Frankenstein
The young student in Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's romance of that name (1818), a classic horror story. The book is also alternatively titled 'The Modern Prometheus'.
Frankenstein made a soulless monster out of corpses from churchyards and dissecting rooms and endued it with life by galvanism, muscle stimulation by electric current.
The tale shows that the creature longed for sympathy but it was shunned by everyone and became the instrument of dreadful retribution on the student who usurped the prerogative of the Creator.
The name Frankenstein is sometimes wrongly used as that of the monster itself, and hence for any monstrous creation.

Occultopedia is the genuine article, the
original and the best internet index of the extraordinary and uncanny,
shamelessly copied by many, but never equaled. Online since 1995 — at first in a free web space provider

with its own domain name and hosting — Occultopedia still is the
principal online resource for those looking for the unexplained, the
curious and the unusual. |
